It is a chronic infectious disease caused by bacteria, Mycobacterium leprae. It affects the skin, mucosa, upper respiratory system, eyes and even involves nerves. Since time immemorial, leprosy has a social stigma associated with it and some people still believe that leprosy is incurable. It is among the least infectious communicable diseases. It can spread from one person to another by only a prolonged close contact.
Painful thickening of nerves, skin discoloration, loss of sensation in skin, thickened patches of skin, nasal congestion and even nose bleeding. It can lead to physical disabilities and psychological impairment.
Types of Leprosy:
A. Tuberculoid Leprosy:
The skin lesions appear as light red or purplish spots. Also, it is the more benign type and is accompanied by involvement of nerves leading to numbness of the extremities, contractures, and ulceration.
B. Lepromatous Leprosy :
The skin lesions appear as yellow or brown infiltrated nodules (protuberances) affecting the mucous membranes of the eyes, nose, and throat. These are associated with thickening of the skin, especially the face and ears.
Once detected, multi-drug therapy is given depending upon the type of leprosy. The severe cases where ulcers develop on the skin and other deformities occur, rehabilitation is provided. Treatment lasts from about 6 months to a year depending upon the type of leprosy.
Homeopathy has been treating patients of leprosy from the days when even the antibiotics were not discovered. We at HomoeoCARE follow a two-pronged approach. On one hand we treat the patient with homeopathic medication which strengthens the immune system, on the other, we educate the people to eliminate the social stigma associated with leprosy.
Homeopathy has a treatment for leprosy and by following an individualistic approach, one can be cured of this disease. We have successfully treated a female aged 23 years whose was diagnosed with lepromatous leprosy. After getting cured, she was able to lead a normal life.
