Homeopathic treatment of Aicardi syndrome

A 3-year-old child, A.C. staying at Nalasopara, came to HomoeoCARE for  developmental delay and convulsions at the age of 3 months. The child gets 4 to 5 episodes of tonic and clonic spasms a day and each episode lasts for 4-5 minutes. She was not responding to her name, lacking in understanding, and at the age of 3 years, she stood with support.

EEG report showed a Right hemisphere burst; multifocal epileptiform activity present over both hemispheres. MRI of the brain showed Agenesis of the corpus callosum with severe hypomyelination, accompanied by cortical dysplasia. 

BERA showed bilateral mild hearing loss.

She was diagnosed with Aicardi syndrome. It is diagnosed by a triad of partial or complete absence of corpus callosum, Chorioretinal lacunae, and Infantile Spasms. The Corpus callosum allows the normal flow of information between the right and left hemispheres of the brain. Agenesis of the corpus callosum leads to frequent seizures, vision and hearing impairment, developmental delay, poor muscle tone, and coordination, learning difficulty, abstract thinking, and attention deficit disorder. In Chorioretinal lacunae, there is a punched-out lesion in the pigmented retina. The onset of infantile spasm is mostly seenaround three months due to the closure of final neural synapses during the development of the brain. Aicardi syndrome is a genetic disorder, thought to be caused by a mutation that specifically occurs on X Chromosome as it is mostly found in girls and a smaller number in boys than Klinefelter syndrome.
