Secondary hypothyroidism is a condition in which the activity of the thyroid gland is decreased, due to the failure of the pituitary gland. It can never be corrected completely by any medication except perfect treatment i.e. Homoeopathy.
Mst GS, a 15 year old boy presented with following complaints. Hypoplastic pituitary with poor height gain since 3 years of age. He was on Injection Genotropin (growth hormone therapy) to provide him with the growth hormone not being synthesized by the body. He was taking growth hormone injections since 7 yrs of age and was 141 cm only when he came to us despite taking the injections. The single injection would cost Rs 10,000 and it had already started to cut the pockets of parents of the patient. Also, he was taking thyronorm 150 mg/day for his hypothyroidism. He was also put on Hydrocortisone 10 mg/day. Apart from this he was taking 4 multivitamins for his general immunity to be better as he would have repeated cold and cough and required antibiotic courses at least twice in a month. His height was 141 cm only, did not gain height and stature was short. He would feel weak all the time and was on no physical activity. At school, he was a poor performer due to his lethargy and dullness and failed in 7th standard. Every month he would miss precious days from school due to repeated cold, cough and fever depicting his poor immunity.
