Case of Recurrent Pancreatitis in a 14-Year-Old Child

A 14-year-old child, S.S., residing at Sewri, came to HomoeoCARE with a complaint of recurrent attacks of acute abdomen for the past 2 years. The pain in the epigastrium, which referred to the back, was preceded by vomiting. The child had been admitted to the hospital four times during these 2 years due to the severity of the attacks. The episodes worsened mainly after consuming outside food. The pain was so intense that the child was unable to appear for the semester exams.

Investigations:

The investigations revealed significant findings. The USG of the abdomen showed pancreatitis with fluid accumulation. An MRCP revealed pancreatic divisum with no intra or extrahepatic biliary dilatation. It also indicated subtle residual pancreatic signal abnormalities, which could be a sequel of previous pancreatitis. The serum Lipase was 2036, and the serum Amylase was 192. These results pointed to active pancreatitis, a condition where digestive enzymes secreted by the pancreas become prematurely activated and start damaging pancreatic cells, leading to inflammation of the pancreas.

Treatment and Response:

Based on a detailed homeopathic history and the totality of symptoms, a personalized homeopathic treatment plan was prescribed. The child responded well to the treatment, and the intensity of pain gradually reduced and disappeared. After a month, the child returned for a follow-up and reported no pain or vomiting. After 6 months, a repeat test showed serum Amylase levels at 74 and serum Lipase at 38. The child was doing well for 1 year, with no further attacks.

Relapse and Further Treatment:

However, after 1 year, an incident triggered mental stress, which led to another episode of pancreatitis. The intensity of the pain was less than before, and after prescription of the homeopathic medicine, the child felt better. Now, 4 years have passed since the last episode, and the child has not had a single attack of pancreatitis.

Conclusion:

After being treated with homeopathy, the child’s recurrent pancreatitis episodes were effectively managed. The child is now free of attacks, and the condition has shown substantial improvement. Homeopathy played a key role in reducing the frequency and intensity of pancreatitis, providing lasting relief.
